TET Capital CEO Yutaro Hiyama Delivers a Special Guest Lecture at Keio University
Exploring the New Currents of Digital Finance and the Frontier of RWA (Real-World Asset Tokenization)
Yutaro Hiyama, Founder & CEO of Tokyo Emerging Technologies Capital (hereinafter “TET Capital”), was invited as a guest lecturer for “Theory and Practice of the Token Economy a,” an endowed course offered by Mizuho Securities at the Faculty of Economics, Keio University. In the session he explained to students the rapidly advancing currents of digital finance and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA: Real World Asset) using blockchain technology, covering the latest domestic and international trends from a practical, hands-on perspective.
“Theory and Practice of the Token Economy a” outlines the core technologies underpinning Web3—including blockchain—and introduces applied cases of the token economy such as NFTs, X-to-Earn, and DeFi, alongside related developments in the evolving legal and regulatory landscape. The course invites front-line practitioners—startup founders and experts in IT, finance, and law—as instructors, and Mr. Hiyama took part as one of these invited lecturers.
Lecture Overview
Beginning with TET Capital’s work bridging crypto assets and blockchain with traditional finance, the lecture introduced the fundamental concepts of RWA and their social and economic significance. With concrete examples, it explained how assets ranging from tangibles such as gold and real estate to intangibles such as government bonds, corporate bonds, and intellectual property can be tokenized—and the benefits this unlocks, including fractional ownership from small amounts, investment diversification, global investment opportunities beyond geographic constraints, and greater asset liquidity.
Key Themes from the Q&A
In the Q&A that followed, discussion went deeper into cross-border fund movement and the rebuilding of financial infrastructure. Internationally, the issuance and circulation of stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and tokenized treasuries are expanding. Topics included J.P. Morgan’s platform (Kinexys / JPM Coin) surpassing USD 1.5 trillion in cumulative transaction volume since its commercial launch.
Turning to Japan, the lecture shared how regulatory development and real-world implementation around RWA, stablecoins, and tokenized deposits are steadily advancing. Examples include reported plans for digital securitization that would make Japanese government bonds tradable 24/7/365 within 2026, as well as earlier proof-of-concept trials under Kinexys’s predecessor involving instant settlement and cross-border transfers across Japanese and Singapore government bonds and multiple currencies.
Comment from the CEO
“Digital finance, including RWA, is no longer a theme for a small circle of specialists—it is a critical domain that will shape the foundation of our future society and economy. I am truly honored to have shared the latest trends and exchanged candid views with the students who will lead the next generation. TET Capital will continue to advance the fusion of technology and finance as a bridge connecting Japan, Asia, and the world.”
